I am delighted to invite you to a special event to celebrate the launch of Lloyd’s Brussels, our European insurance company on Tuesday, 13 November in Brussels.

During the afternoon, you will have the option to meet the Lloyd’s Brussels Executive Committee for an interactive workshop on how to conduct business with the company and an opportunity to experience a number of technology initiatives which aim to shape the future of the Lloyd’s market including our new Innovation Lab and digital matching platform Lloyd’s Bridge.

This will be followed by a seminar where we will discuss and debate the trends affecting today’s world and how to prepare for them. We will be joined by a panel of experts including Richard Watson, author, futurist and scenario planner, Dr. Bertrand Piccard, Initiator and President of the Solar Impulse Foundation, and Prof. Dr Bruno Colman, Member of the Belgian Royal Academy.

Finally, we will conclude with a reception from 18:00.

Taux d’intérêts négatifs : CADRE ET IMPACT

La récente évolution de la courbe des taux est très surprenante : les taux d’intérêts à court terme sont passés sous la barre du zéro et il est également question d’intérêts négatifs pour les durées plus longues.

L’Institut des Actuaires en Belgique souhaite mener un débat et un échange d’idées à propos des perspectives de ces taux et de leur impact sur l’environnement actuariel.

La combinaison de la vision d’un spécialiste en investissements et d’un économiste académique avec la façon dont les autorités compétentes appréhendent le sujet permettra de dresser un tableau clair de la situation. Des représentants du secteur de l’assurance et des fonds de pensions présenteront ensuite l’impact qu’ont les taux d’intérêts bas et plus spécifiquement les intérêts négatifs sur leurs activités. Nous terminerons le programme par l’impact sur les modèles actuariels d’une part, et sur la profession actuarielle d’autre part.

 

NEGATIEVE INTERESTVOETEN : OMGEVING EN IMPACT

De recente evolutie van de rentecurve is zeer merkwaardig. De korte termijn interesten zijn reeds onder nul gezakt, er wordt gesproken van negatieve interestvoeten ook voor langere duurtijden.

Het Instituut van de Actuarissen in België voert het debat over de prespectieven en de impact binnen eigen omgeving en wil de ideeën nu delen.

Door de visie van de beleggingsspecialist en van de academische economist te combineren met de manier waarop de bevoegde overheden hier tegenaan kijken willen we een duidelijk beeld scheppen van de situatie. Vertegenwoordigers van de verzekeringssector en de pensioenfondsen zetten uiteen welke impact lage interesten en meer specifiek negatieve interesten hebben op hun activiteiten. En ten slotte willen we wijzen op de impact op de actuariële modellen enerzijds maar ook op het actuarieel beroep anderzijds.

CORE (Center for Operations Research & Econometrics) and CeSAM (Center of studies of Asset Management) are organizing a CORE-Wide seminar with Professor Lars Peter HANSEN. The seminar will be held on February 10, at 11:00 a.m. at UCL.

Lars Peter Hansen is an internationally known leader in economic dynamics who works at the boundary of economics and statistics. He is a recipient of the 2013 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel. Hansen is recognized for making fundamental advances in our understanding of how economic agents cope with changing and risky environments. He has contributed to the development of statistical methods designed to explore the interconnections between macroeconomic indicators and assets in financial markets. These methods are widely used in empirical research in financial economics. Before receiving the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences, he received several other awards and honors. Hansen won the 2010 BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award in the Economics, Finance and Management “for making fundamental contributions to our understanding of how economic actors cope with risky and changing environments.” He also received the CME Group-MSRI Prize in Innovative Quantitative Applications in 2008 and the Erwin Plein Nemmers Prize in Economics from Northwestern University in 2006.
